Matches

Conestoga offers a variety of matches including:

Rifle

We have Scheutzen Rifle Matches (Delaware Valley Single Shot Association) and gallery rifle matches.

Handgun

We generally have a match every week. The matches are in a variety of formats such as

  • Bowling Pins - .22 handguns - You try to knock down 9 pins at 30 feet with 9 rounds racing against the clock
  • Pie Plates - You shoot at pie plates at 50 feet. The usual course is 5 rounds in 12, 10 and 8 seconds
  • Defense Gun Match - The course of fire is 6 rounds. In one type of match, you place the handgun and magazine on the table or place your revolver with the cylinder loaded and open on the table. You then step back. When the buzzer sounds you load the magazine or close the cylinder and fire. The course is generally 6 rounds twice in 12, 10 and 8 seconds.

Bowling Pin Shoot

Bowling Pin Shoots at Conestoga Gun Club in Southampton, PA

Bowling pin shoots provide a lot of shooting fun. These matches are .22 handgun only. All sights including iron, red dot and laser are acceptable. Typically 9 pins are lined up. You load 10 rounds. When the buzzer sounds, you start shooting trying to clear all the pins. It only counts if you clear all 9 pins (Hey, it's only 30 feet or so). If you clear all 9, your score is based on your time.

Note, this is not acceptable at most bowling alleys as a means of clearing pins.

Defense Gun Matches

Defense Gun Targets

Defense gun matches are held once or twice a month, usually on a Tuesday beginning at 7 PM. (Check the Yahoo Group announcement and postings for more details regarding dates and time)

A typical course of fire will be 6 rounds fired twice at 12, 10 and 8 seconds. You load your magazine with 6 rounds but do not insert it. You step back about 3 feet. When the buzzer sounds, you insert the magazine or close your cylinder. Then you fire stopping when the second buzzer sounds. You alternate between head and body with each shot. No alibis are taken. Center fire weapons are used.

Scoring is based on the number of hits. This is a fun match and also provides some practical experience.
